Small firms need cloud security, claims expert :: |
Posted by Jessie Richards
Small firms have a greater understanding of the benefits of cloud computing but need to focus more on security, new research has suggested.
In news which may interest IT services users, research conducted by Easynet Connect found that 51 per cent of small companies believe the technology can allow them to make financial savings, compared to 35 per cent at the same time last year.
Furthermore, 43 per cent appreciate that cloud computing enables home and remote working, growing from 35 per cent in the previous survey.
However, the poll also showed that 85 per cent of small firms starting cloud computing IT projects do not intend to increase their security efforts, while more than 80 per cent have not established a formal strategy for its roll-out.
Chris Stening, managing director of Easynet Connect, commented: "We find it worrying that the vast majority of companies aren't taking basic measures to prepare themselves for such a significant shift in their business operations, such as creating a formal migration strategy [and] increasing security."
A report from BT Global Services recently said that more companies will start to adopt cloud computing as the economy enters recovery.
