Malware to grow through 2010, claims expert :: |
Posted by Jessie Richards
The amount of malware threatening IT outsourcing users is likely to continue to increase over the next 12 months, according to an expert.
Javier Merchan, of cloud-based security solutions company Panda Security, predicted that malware will grow "exponentially" during 2010, as hackers increasingly turn from seeking notoriety to profits.
"Cybercriminals are making more and more samples in order to infect as many users as possible and also to avoid [anti-virus] detections," he explained.
Mr Merchan also said cloud-based security solutions mean that malware can be identified and tackled faster than ever, but pointed out that this means hackers will work harder to develop new strains.
A recent report by Panda Security said 25 million new types of malware were created in 2009, compared to 15 million throughout the previous 20 years.
The research revealed that new forms of malware being developed include banker trojans that target online banking and payment systems and fake anti-virus programs.
