Mobile security expected to grow ::

Posted by Steven Gaskill

There is likely to be an increase in the number of mobile devices using third-party security solutions, IT outsourcing users have heard.

According to Juniper Research's Endpoint Security for Business: Desktops, Laptops & Mobile Devices 2009-2014 report, the number of corporate devices using the applications will rise to 77.7 million in the next four years.

The study said that the rise in such security solutions will occur despite the failure of major threats to mobile devices to arise, with the proportion of corporate devices protected expected to grow from 5.6 per cent in 2008 to 18.6 per cent in 2014.

Anthony Cox, senior analyst at Juniper Research, claimed "improvements to the underlying security of the mobile operating system, shorter replacement cycles and concerted efforts by the mobile industry" means the widespread security problems facing desktop computers have not materialised for equipment like laptops and smartphones.

Javier Merchan, of cloud-based security solutions company Panda Security, recent predicted that malware will grow "exponentially" over the next 12 months as hackers launch new threats such as banker trojans and fake anti-virus programs.
