Firms investing in data protection, poll finds :: |
Posted by Louise Tate
An increasing number of companies are realising the importance of investing in data protection and recovery solutions, it has been suggested.
Research carried out by IT industry analyst IDC claimed that firms are adopting more backup measures in a bid to reduce the adverse effects of the theft, loss, or compromise of critical data from corporate networks.
In addition, the organisation revealed that 55 per cent of the companies it polled had already deployed software or a service to help backup their PCs.
Laura DuBois, programme director of storage software at IDC, told IT outsourcing users: "Firms are now backing up PC data, once a long-forgotten and overlooked information asset. The most prevalent approach is centralised backup software, although legacy approaches still exist."
She also claimed that the future could see more organisations using security PC management and desktop virtualisation to provide their networks with greater levels of security.
InvisiViewmedia.com recently found 98 per cent of workers say it is important to protect corporate data, but 30 per cent still send confidential information in an unsecured email format.
