Mozilla Firefox bug shows security need, says expert :: |
Posted by Steven Gaskill
The recent malware infection in Mozilla Firefox shows that firms should always be attentive to IT security, an expert has claimed.
Last week, the official Mozilla blog revealed that two browser add-ons which were made available to Firefox users had been infected with trojan codes.
Commenting on the case, Tom Kelchner, research centre manager at Sunbelt Software, said the incident is not surprising, as hackers are constantly attempting to find new ways to infect computers.
"As new products and mechanisms evolve on the internet, there always will be new ways for the dark side to try to victimise people," he explained.
The expert told IT outsourcing users that they should always employ several layers of security on their systems to protect themselves from malware, with an antivirus scanner and a firewall being the very minimum they should use.
Recently, digital security company Panda Security claimed that 25 million new malware strains were created during 2009, while just 15 million were developed over the previous 20 years.
