IT outsourcing users should take steps to secure their websites so that they do not come under attack from malware threats, one expert has said.
Paul Baccas, a senior threat analyst at SophosLabs, said that it would be "foolhardy" to think that a basic website is less dangerous than a more complex one.
His comments came after Microsoft announced a crackdown on a notorious botnet known as Waledac.
According to the organisation, the operation was known internally as Operation b49 and Waledac was one of the ten largest botnets in the US, as well as a major distributor of spam across the world.
Mr Baccas said that IT outsourcing users can take steps to ensure they are protected form such threats by securing their websites.
"The security of a site is much more impacted by the security of the server hosting the site, rather than its content. The most sensible steps are to follow established best practices. For instance, secure and hard to crack passwords," the expert said. |
